Bridge for Dance is riding high off of the energized 2006/07 season of the Uptown Performance Series (uPs) that showcased over twenty new works by up and coming choreographers.

Continuing the ingenuity of the well-established showcase, the series will debut NYC choreographers and new works on the rise for the 2007-08 season.

The Uptown Performance Series has had a powerful presence on the Upper Westside and the NYC dance scene for over 8 years, attracting new and established choreographers from around the city, its five boroughs and the tri-state area. The successful series has pushed boundaries by presenting the classical to the eclectic, showcasing delectable works to please a variety of dance palettes.

Our personal attention & dedication to providing an intimate and professional setting has made our venue quite unique and attractive to presenters and audiences alike.  Our converted studio theater seats 70 and is one of the few venues left uptown which is still committed to promoting emerging choreographers as well as offering affordable rehearsal & performance space to dancers.

We invite choreographers to apply for a performance slot for the season dates:
The 2007-2008 Season application period has ended. Please check back for 2007-2008 dates & deadlines. TBA July 2008.

Please note that this season, we are expanding the showcase to two nights rather than 2 shows in one night.

2. Provide a VHS or DVD of work to be presented OR a sample of previous work(s) with application. Recording of rehearsal or performance accepted.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO APPLICATION FEE. HOWEVER, IF PRESENTED, THERE IS A $50.00 PRESENTATION FEE WHICH CONTRIBUTES TO PAYING ADMINISTRATIVE, ADVERTISING AND PRINTING COSTS. THIS WILL BE DUE AT THE ACCEPTANCE OF A GIVEN SERIES SLOT.

PROVISIONS:
Work must be a…

• premiere -or-
• work-in-progress -and/or-
• not presented in NYC in the last 3 months -and-
• not scheduled in another venue within the month following UPS series
• under 12 minutes (if over 12 minutes, please contact director for consideration)
• able to be performed without cross-over or wing space
• must be available for both performances and scheduled tech

The work presented may be a…

• full length piece or excerpt
• any genre (this series typically is focused on contemporary modern work, but all are considered)

• DVD or VIDEO COPY OF PERFORMANCE – Video of the performance (2 camera angle shoot if available) will be taken during the performance. For an additional $15.00, the presenting artist may purchase a copy of their work. (note: no personal taping of the performance will be allowed)
• PHOTO PACKAGE. Photos will be taken during the technical rehearsal for ad & archive use. For an additional $15.00, presenting artist may reserve 10 minutes following their tech for a photo session and will receive digital copies of all photos of their work.
• FREE 2 HOURS OFF-PEAK REHEARSAL SPACE (MORNING & LATE EVENING) WITHIN 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO SHOW.
• DISCOUNTED REHEARSAL RENTALS FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON ($15.00/hour – Regular rate $20.00/hour)
