The Uptown Performance
Series showcases the heart of the dance scene and
contemporary culture in NYC, with exuberant eclecticism.
Choreographers and performers consistently bring passion,
verve and sensuality to the forefront in their works in this
venue.
The second event of our 2007-2008 season merges high
aesthetic, strong athleticism and earthy vitality. Each of
the presenting choreographers offer unique perspectives with
their intriguing nuances and sensibilities.

Director/choreographer|
a native Texan received her BA
in Dance from the University of North Texas. She has
produced, choreographed and performed original works
consistently over the years as well as co-founded DIP|dance
company with collaborator
Coco
Loupe
with which she has presented and performed works in New
York, Texas, Louisiana and Ohio. Professionally, she has
performed as a guest artist with Rachel Lampert and Dancers
(Ithaca, NY) and for four years she performed, taught,
assisted and designed nationally and internationally with
Skip Costa/CORE movement Project-NYC. Amiti recently
returned to NYC after a three-year hiatus during which she
received her MFA in Choreography from the
Department of
Dance at The Ohio State University. At OSU she
studied under and was mentored by
Bebe Miller and Dave Covey as well as Karen
Eliot, Susan Hadley, and Melanie Bales. In addition she
performed works by Miller and worked extensively with
Michael Estanich,
Blake Beckham and
Esther
Palmer.

Since
first presenting original work at the 92nd St. Y,
ellen
stokes shadle/DanceWorks,
has also been seen at Dance Space Center (now Dance New
Amsterdam), Dance Forum, The Strand Theater (NJ), New York
University’s Frederick Loewe Theater, Sal Anthony’s Movement
Salon, the Joyce SoHo, The Bridge for Dance, St. Mark’s
Church, University Settlement, City Center Studios, and the
Merce Cunningham Studio. Her work has been presented by
Jennifer Muller/The Works HATCH, dancenow/downtown
(now dancenow/nyc), Davidson Dance Group (now Kinetic
Architecture), Torque Dance, Uptown Performance Series,
Rising Up, Andary Dance (Providence, RI), Thang Dao
Contemporary Dance Festival, American Dance Guild, Hobart
and William Smith Colleges, Dancers Responding to AIDS, and
The Élan Awards.

Heather Mims
Kaczmarek
|Artistic Director/choreographer/performer|
received her MFA in
Choreography from the Ohio State University and BFA in Dance
from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where
she danced with the Jan Van Dyke Dance Group and the John
Gamble Dance Theater. Since moving to NYC, she has
performed as a member of the Heather Harrington Dance
Company and also in the work of Daniel Charon, Natalie Desch,
and Amy Beth Schneider. Her own work has been performed in
the Peekskill Festival, the DUMBO Dance Festival, at
Greenspace in Long Island City, and in the Performance
Prefix at Teatro La Tea.

katrina marie phillip/Strong Like Cattle
Katrina Marie
Phillip is a native of Chicago, IL. Her training started
there at dance studios such as Lou Conte, Joel Hall, Gus
Giordano, and the Academy of Dance Arts. She has her
bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Dance
from Western Michigan University, and extended her studies
in performance getting involved with comedy improv, learning
other various acting techniques, along with getting
certified in both group exercise & personal fitness
training.
Katrina just recently started
presenting her choreographic works here in New York City
and founded “Strong Like Cattle” (SLC); a musical
theatre dance group geared for the young musical theatre
